熱海市の木に指定されている「あたみ桜」。
その早咲きの珍しさと美しさを多くのお客様に愛でていただこうと、ある宿屋の主人が、この桜を市内各所へと植樹し続けました。
一人の地道な活動に、やがて熱海市民が賛同し、協力の輪が広がっていくなか、
1965（昭和40）年の「花いっぱい運動」を機に、大切に育てられ増えていった桜は
「あたみ桜」と呼ばれるようになりました。（あたみ桜は寒緋桜と山桜の混種と推定されています）
先人たちの想いとご尽力に、地元の一員として、
微力ながらも生業を通してお役に立てたならと考案いたしましたお菓子が「あたみ桜」です。
阿波徳島の和三盆を使用し、意匠にも和の心をこめて仕上げました。

晩年を熱海で過ごされた坪内逍遥氏が作詞なさった熱海市歌の一節に、
「真冬を知らざる常春熱海」とありますとおり、温暖な気候に恵まれた熱海では、
例年一月頃、梅と同時に、桜の開花が始まります。

そして約半年もの間、ヒマラヤ桜、あたみ桜、河津桜、大島桜、染井吉野、八重桜と、さまざまな桜が咲き誇り、
彩り豊かな情景を眼福としてお楽しみいただけますが、
観桜できない残り約半年の時季には、当店のお菓子「あたみ桜」で、
熱海の桜に込めたおもてなしの心を感じとっていただけましたら幸甚です。

Atami Zakura is designated as “the tree of Atami City”. Several decades ago, an owner of a ryokan started to plant cherry trees in some places in Atami, hoping that visitors could enjoy the rare beauty of Atami Zakura that are known to blossom early.
After that, citizens cooperated with one another to grow these trees with great care and spirit, and their activities bore fruit in the form of a campaign called “Fill Atami with Flowers” in 1965. At that time these unique cherry trees were named “Atami Zakura”. (Atami-Zakura is said to be a hybrid between Hikan-Zakura and Yama-Zakura.)

One of our Wagashi, “Atami Zakura” was created with reverence for these forerunners, as we hoped to pass on those same sentiments to our customers, too.
In addition to using carefully selected Wasanbon sugar, we have also incorporated Japanese culture into the design of our Wagashi.

A prominent novelist, Shoyo Tsubouchi, spent his twilight years in Atami, and he wrote the lyrics of the Atami City Song “Mafuyu wo Shirazaru Tokoharu Atami” or “Atami, the City with Everlasting Spring”. As is written in the song, our city is blessed with a mild climate all through the year, and you can see cherry and Ume (Japanese apricot) trees starting to bloom almost simultaneously in January.

You can also appreciate various kinds of cherry trees such as Himalayan, Atami, Kawadu, Ohshima, Someiyoshino, and Yae that flower one after another for nearly six months, providing visitors with eye-pleasing experiences. It is our hope that even in the off-season, our customers will be able to feel the beauty of the cherry blossoms by savoring our Atami Zakura, as part of our city’s hospitality or “Omotenashi”.
